Ok all u computer geeks... please help! I got windoweyes this year on my laptop and don't know how to use it that well online. Any hotkeys and other shortcuts I should know about? Like how do u skip by headings on a webpage? Plzzz help!
Jenna
Boy, I'm sure not an expert on window-eyes. However, blackbird is. Why not pm him for info? Once you learn, you two can tell all us jaws users what ediots we are. <lol>
Suggest you read the manual first. Window-eyes has a plethora of shortcut keys (more than jaws, I think), or you can make your own.
I also think there is a way to create keystroke macros, but not sure.
Bob
Well thanks for the big build up bob. I actually don't have a clue about the laptop specific keystrokes as I've never used the laptop layout.
as for web browsing.
H for heading,
T for Table.
M for frame,
V for visited link,
also remember that shift with any of those will move you back to the previous one. If you want more specific keystrokes, ask, though I don't use a lot, and I'm sure there are many more for web browsing, just can't think of them. oh, if you're a jaws user normally, you're probably a fan of the links list, with WindowEyes you get that with insert tab, which i guess could be different on laptops, but I just don't know.
thanks guys! I'll try the links list thing and tell u if it works. Yeah I an normally a jaws user so this is deffinatly different lol
thanks again
Jenna
My school used window Eyes and I still don't know how to use it. I do know that time is insert t and getting out of MSAA is, well, i think I forgot it. To change verious speach settings is ctrl alt arrows.
What I can tell you as you're a jaws user, if you have a qwerty keyboard you can plug into the laptop, with the latest vertions of Windoweyes, there is a jaws keyboard layout to help you along.
I always liked the control arrow keys (or was it insert+control+arrow key) to change speech characteristics on the fly. Sure wish jaws had that.
Bob
I think it used to be insert ctrl arrows, now it's the right alt, or alt ctrl arrows that does the same.
I'm not sure exactly what speach characteristics you mean Bob but you can alter the speed of Jaws in any application using ctrl+alt+page up or down. If it's anything other than speed to which you refer, then I'm not sure.
Dan.
You can also alter the pitch, provided that you set it up in the keyboard manager, so basicly just assign a hotkey to the increase or decrease pitch script.
Malthe.
I think the difference here then is that with the ctrl alt arrows for windoweyes, you can change all 3 voices, screen, keyboard, and mouse, separately or altogether, and you can change all carictoristics, speed, volume, pitch and tone.
Yes, that's what I remember. Much better than jaws in that area.
Bob
And Window-Eyes blows jaws away in vista support.
Last time I looked, Window-eyes sucked in support for microsoft office products. Don't believe me? Try it with ms access.
My conclusion is that they are both good productss in different areas.
Bob
Bob, Access is the one office area they haven't yet addressed. GWMicro have been taking one part of office at a time, and making it work really well. While this board shouldn't become a place to make huge sweeping comparisons, people I know who have used both screen readers say that once GW implement the supportfor these packagews as they've been doing it works a lot better than with jaws. I guess it just means if something doesn't work yet like access, wait, and it will for sure.
If you want to enter some text in to an edit box just press enter on the editbox. Window eyes will tell you brows off. To find an edit box, search button, or other control peress c on your key board.
I am a jaws user. I think both screen reader's are good, but jaws has easy-to-remember keystrokes, and window eyes seems to be more stable. With jaws, sometimes, I get some error message application file for jaws has encountered a problem and needs to close. Also, I think window eyes works better with ie 7.
